Lander School Board Recap: Champions of Education Nominations

LANDER – The Lander School District #1 held a regular meeting on Tuesday the 20th in the School Board Chambers. 

Many updates were on the Agenda and some of the topics although a bit controversial were discussed and acted upon. Expenditure approval, Home school reports about potential curriculum, Expulsion Agreements are all vital to the function of the district and the board takes each of these items into consideration under parliamentary procedure. 

The WSBA Board of Directors is accepting nominations from school boards for WSBA’s second highest award: the Champion of Education Award The Champion of Education Award is awarded to those people who have made an outstanding contribution to the improvement of education in their local district.

 If your community has someone who meets the following criteria, please submit their name and resume to WSBA by October 3, 2022.

1. The recipient must have been a school board member, an educator, or a lay person actively involved with educational issues. 

2. The recipient must have made a significant contribution to the advancement of education in the local district.

3. The recipient must have made contributions to education over a period of time. 



1. The individual must be nominated by the local board of trustees and carry its endorsement. There are no limits to the number of persons an individual board may nominate.

2. Sufficient background information to justify and support the nomination must accompany each nomination. 

3. The WSBA Board of Directors will act as a screening committee to select the recipient(s) of the award. Those nominated, but not selected, may be nominated again the following year. 

4. All the criteria listed above will be considered. The Champion of Education Award will be presented locally, either by a representative of the WSBA, or by a local board member. The award may be presented at any time

An updated memorandum of understanding with DRC was voted on and entered into. Although this will affect a very small group of students. This agreement is to make sure there is a place for any student that needs the support in a time of crisis. The referral process requires a strict following of procedures that ultimately ends with the student in question being placed. 

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for October 4, 2022 at 6:00 P.M.
