Fremont County’s Draft Natural Resource Plan to be released Tuesday

The Fremont County Board of County Commissioners along with a steering committee has completed a draft Natural Resource Management Plan (NRMP). The County developed this Plan as a tool which allows a local government to have a substantive impact on federal decisions, plans, policies, and programs. Federal agencies consideration of a local natural resource management plan, or resource plan, can play a key role in the success of a local government engaging as a cooperative agency or with consistency review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), coordination under the Federal Lands Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), or National Forest Management Act (NFMA) as well as assisting in the Governor’s consistency review.

The Draft Fremont County NRMP will be released for public comment on Tuesday July 20, 2021. The document is located on the Fremont County website at https://www.fremontcountywy.org/ for review and download. Hard copies of the document will also be available for viewing at the public libraries in Dubois, Lander, and Riverton and at the conservation district offices in Dubois, Lander, and Riverton. The public comment period
will be open for 45-days from Tuesday July 20th through Friday September 5th. Written public comments are requested to ensure a full understanding of your thoughts and concerns. Written comments will by fully considered before finalizing the NRMP and can be submitted via email to FremontCoNRMP@y2consultants.com or submitted to Becky Enos at the Fremont County Clerk’s Office. To acquire community input and provide information about the purpose and intent of this NRMP, public meetings will be held throughout Fremont County. The date for those meetings has not been set but will be advertised to the public at least one week in advance of the scheduled meetings through media outlets across the county and will be announced at the August 3rd Fremont County Board of County Commissioners meeting. A virtual option for these meetings will also be available through a Zoom registration link.
