Fires of suspicious origin kept firefights dashing up and down the 17 mile road on the Wind River Reservation Saturday for a series of apparently arson caused fires. The BIA Forestry Warehouse at Fort Washakie and the BIA Wind River Police Department are investigating.

One of the six to eight blazes caught an unoccupied structure on fire. Fire Departments that responded included the Riverton Fire District, the Fremont County Fire Protection District and a brush truck from the Lander Volunteer Fire Department.

The fires broke out along the roadway and some witnesses claimed the fires were started by people driving a green vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call the BIA Wind River Police Department at Fort Washakie.

Six to Eight fires were reported on Saturday afternoon along the 17-Mile Road.
