A news release from the Northern Wyoming Community College District yeterday reported that both Sheridan College and Gillette College have disbanded all of their sports programs, except Rodeo and that budget was reduced.
According to the news release, coaches at both Gillette College and Sheridan College were let go Thursday, and the athletic director was fired Wednesday as a result of budget considerations. The release noted that some $500,000 was cut from both college’s administration budget and that the college’s police force budget was reduced by over $20,000. Including all cuts, the total is around $4.5 million.
The district said those students on athletic scholarships could transfer the scholarships into academics if they wished to stay at the two schools.
Both colleges were members of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Region IX, the conference that includes the Central Wyoming College Rustlers men’s and women’s sports.
