(Lander, Wyo.) – The Fremont County Vocational High School’s Class of 1969 celebrated its 50th class reunion this past week. Three days of activities included a welcome, mixer and a concert on Wednesday, participating in the Pioneer Days Parade on July 4th and a dinner Friday night. Class members also attended the Lander All-School reunion Saturday at the Museum of the American West.
At Wednesday’s event, some 82 class members plus their spouses and friends gathered in the Chamber of Commerce Park for a program that included a welcome from Class President Alan Merrywether, a salute to the state’s 1968 state basketball champions, seven members of which were members of the Class of ’69; A memorial tribute to 51 class members who had passed away; Special presentation by the American Legion for the 36 class members who had served in the military and music by song writer Steve Eaton (former lead guitarist for Paul Revere and the Raiders) and professional musician Brian Clark, originally of Lander and a classmate to many in the class. A class photo (above) was also taken.
Eaton and Clark then performed a concert at the Gannett Grill late into the evening.
On the July 4th float, special recognition was given to three couples who were also celebrating their respective 50th Wedding Anniversaries. They are Monte and Beverly Paddleford, Harold (Corky) and Marilyn Presgrove and Marvin and Sherry Symes.
The Class Float featured a replica of the former message sign outside of the high school. The Class of 1969 was the last class of Fremont County Vocational High School under that name. In the summer of 1969 the school’s name was changed to Lander Valley High School.
