Council votes to allow beer sales at May 24th Alive at 5

The Riverton City Council voted 6-1 Tuesday evening in favor of allowing beer to be served at the Alive at Five event taking place the same day as the Riverton Splash Pad grand opening in Riverton City Park.

Mayor Richard Gard was the lone no vote. The Mayor said he supports events like Alive at Five at city park, but that his vote was in support of Police Chief Eric Murphy and his efforts to clean up the park.

Murphy gave an impassioned speech against the two events being on the same day. Chief Murphy said he expected no problems, and supported Alive at Five fully. However he urged the council to let the event “be an event for the kids”.
