LaDeana Lynn Roberts Strock, of Fort Washakie fought a long and hard fight with cancer and she passed away on September 26, 2016 in her home surrounded by family and friends. The all-night Wake will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 30th at the family home located at #4 Grove Lane in Fort Washakie. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1st at Rocky Mountain Hall in Fort Washakie; burial to follow at Sacajawea Cemetery in Fort Washakie.
LaDeana Lynn (Roberts) Strock, was born June 14, 1972 to Leonard Roberts Sr. and Marilyn L. (Shoyo) Roberts in Lander, Wyoming. LaDeana attended Fort Washakie School, Flandreau Indian School, Flandreau SD where she was the Cheerleading Captain and Student Council member, upon graduation in 1991 she worked for the EST in the Finance Department and Little Wind Auto. LaDeana decided to pursue her education by attending United Tribes Technical College in Bismark, ND, where she was a member of Lady Thunderbirds basketball team when they were allowed to compete in the NAIA, and the AIHEC. She also obtained her Associates degree in Early Childhood Education at United Tribes College, then later attended University of Mary’s where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.
She was a teacher’s aide for 4 years, then a teacher at Fort Washakie School for 12 years, teaching kindergarten and 1st grades, and was also a Title teacher. She was a coach for volleyball, track & cheerleading, she coached for 13 years. She loved to teach and encourage the youth.
Her hobbies included softball, basketball, volleyball, riding horses, she enjoyed watching relay races and rodeos, spending time with her family and friends. In her younger days she was a fancy dancer and graduated to traditional dancing and was also a barrel racer.
She was a member of the Native American Church and of the Episcopal faith, she also strongly believed in Sundance and other traditional ceremonies.
She is survived by her Son, Jeffrey A. Strock, Father, Leonard Roberts Sr., Brothers Leonard Roberts Jr. and Jay Dee Roberts, Sisters BenniLee Roberts and JoeNessa Surrell. Close nephews, Jaren, Julien, Tisso and Tanner Guina. Aunts Anita Clair, Bernie Shoyo, Catherine Standing Rock, Lila Rodriquez, Francine Shoyo, Claudine Peahrora, Irene Peahrora. Uncles Arlen Shoyo and Johnson Roanhorse. Cousins: Michelle Shoyo, Carolyn Shoyo, Bonnie Ainsworth, Tanna Dieken, Misty, Bunni & Kandy Shoyo, Tawnee, Kaycee and Martina Standing Rock, Carma Redman, Delta Azbill, Patrica Eagle, Connie Clair, Johnna Roanhorse, Lana, Andrea, Karla, Christel & Tammy Peahora, Alice Jean Hereford and Candice Roberts. Jason Clair, Garrett Shoyo, LoryJay SunRhodes, Justin & Jared Panzetanga, Ronald Shoyo Jr., Rocky Shoyo, Giles Timabana, Carlton Roberts, Kirby Amboh, Ronson Peahrora, Jason, Scott and Jarod Amboh.
She was proceeded in death by her mother, Marilyn (Shoyo) Roberts; grandparents Harrison & Anna Shoyo Sr., Louis & Lilly Roberts; Aunts Lavonne Roanhorse, Barbara & Beverly Roberts; Uncles Harrison Jr., Dean and Randy Shoyo; Emerson, Rex and Rudy Roberts.
