Eddie Yarbrough Lombardi Candidate

The 2015 Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List was released on Tuesday by the Rotary Lombardi Award Committee. University of Wyoming senior defensive end Eddie Yarbrough was one of the players named to the 2015 list. It marks the second consecutive season that Yarbrough has been selected to the Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List.

Yarbrough will be a leading All-America candidate in 2015. He was named a First Team All-Mountain West selection both as a sophomore in 2013 and as a junior in 2014 in voting by conference head coaches and media.

He led all Mountain West defensive linemen in tackles, averaging 7.4 tackles per game as a sophomore in 2013. Yarbrough ended the 2013 season with 89 total tackles, including 6.5 sacks, 12.0 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. He followed up that outstanding sophomore campaign by ranking No. 2 among all defensive linemen in the MW in tackles as a junior in 2014. Yarbrough accounted for 63 total tackles, including 4.0 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss as a junior, while forcing one fumble and recovering another.

The Aurora, Colo., native has made 194 tackles and 28.5 tackles for loss during his college career. He will enter the 2015 season ranked No. 15 among active FBS players in tackles for loss and No. 6 among active FBS defensive linemen, averaging 0.81 TFLs per game (28.5 TFLs in 35 career games). Yarbrough is poised to become Wyoming’s all-time leader in career tackles for loss. He needs 7.5 TFLs his senior season to move into the top spot.

Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage. The candidates earned a place on the preliminary Watch List by earning All-American honors, being named to their respective all-conference teams or receiving 2015 pre-season honors.

The 46th Rotary Lombardi Award will be presented on December 9, 2015, at the Bayou Music Center in Houston, Texas. Proceeds from the Rotary Lombardi Awards stay in the Houston community and benefit the American Cancer Society, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Centers / Children’s Cancer Hospital, and Texas Children’s Cancer Center.
