For the first time this season, guard Marquelle Dent has been selected as the Mountain West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Dec. 6-13. It’s the second time in her career she has taken home the award. She last earned the honor on February 10, 2014.
Dent, a 5-7 senior from Denver, Colo., led the Cowgirls to a 2-0 record this past week with victories over Denver and Montana. Wyoming improved to 5-3 overall while snapping a two-game losing streak. She averaged a team leading 20.5 points and seven assists while bringing down four rebounds per game. Dent also shot 15-of-35 (.429) from the field and 4-of-8 (.500) from three.
Against the Pioneers, she finished with 21 points and ten assists for her fourth career double-double. In that same game, she reached 1,000 points for her career and is currently 20th with 1,037. Followed that up with a 20 point four assist and two steal effort. With those four assists, she also moved into a tie for third place on the all-time assist list with 396. Dent has recorded double-digits in all eight contests this season and scored 20 plus points in the last four games.
Wyoming is at home the next two games to close out the non-conference season as it hosts Montana State on Saturday and the Colorado Buffs on Monday. Saturday game time is set for 5 p.m. MT followed by a 7 p.m. MT tip against the Buffs.
